Screening Plagiarism
PT Wacana Publisher Utama upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. Every manuscript submitted to the Journal of Islamic Communication, Law, and Humanity (and all other journals within our group) undergoes a rigorous originality check before proceeding to the peer-review stage.
1. Screening Procedure
All submitted manuscripts are screened using international standard plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate. The screening process is conducted at two primary stages:
-
Initial Stage: Immediately upon submission (prior to being sent to reviewers).
-
Final Stage: Before publication (after the revision process is complete) to ensure that no plagiarized material was added during the correction phase.
2. Similarity Tolerance Threshold
-
Maximum Similarity Index: A manuscript will only be processed further if it has a Maximum Similarity Index of 20%.
-
Single Source Similarity: Similarity with a single source must not exceed 3-5%. This is to prevent the over-reliance on a single reference within the text.
-
Exclusions: References (Bibliography) and direct quotes that are properly enclosed in quotation marks with correct attribution will be excluded from the similarity index calculation during the screening process.
3. Actions Against Plagiarism
Based on the screening report, the Editorial Board will take the following actions:
-
Similarity < 20%: The manuscript proceeds to the Section Editor for the peer-review process.
-
Similarity 20% - 30%: The manuscript is returned to the author with instructions to paraphrase and correct citations. The author must resubmit the revised manuscript.
-
Similarity > 30%: The manuscript is automatically Rejected due to high indications of plagiarism or redundant publication.
4. Monitored Forms of Misconduct
We monitor various forms of ethical violations, including but not limited to:
-
Direct Plagiarism: Copying word-for-word from another person's work without quotation marks and citation.
-
Self-Plagiarism (Auto-plagiarism): Reusing significant portions of one’s own previously published work without clear referencing.
-
Paraphrasing Without Citation: Changing the wording of another’s sentences while retaining the idea/argument without giving credit.
-
Mosaic/Patchwork Plagiarism: Combining various sources into one text without proper attribution.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that the work submitted is their original thought. We strongly recommend that authors conduct a self-check using anti-plagiarism software before submitting their manuscript to our OJS (Online Journal System).
Note for Editors: Ensure Turnitin settings exclude "Bibliography" and "Quotes" to provide a more accurate reflection of the manuscript's content originality.
